I don't doubt his work ethic so much as I know CP's rehab that offseason was stuff of legend. He made the cover of Sports Illustrated for his grueling rehab process. Tbh, I ultimately feel like it's more Mike Brown keeping Joe off the field than anything.
I'm just speculating, because message board.

The fact that dude was back for the beginning of the season was nothing short of remarkable. And Shake is totally right, it's even more impressive when you consider this was 15 years ago.
Fwiw, I dug up this story that was written shortly after he got hurt: https://www.espn.com/nfl/news/story?id=2290239 and took the liberty of pulling some quotes...
Carson Palmer's knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said Thursday.
"It's not just like it was a torn ACL," Paulos said Thursday, in a phone interview from Houston. "It's a magnitude more difficult to recover from and repair. It can and has ended careers, without a doubt.
Paulos, an orthopedic surgeon who has worked with the U.S. Ski Team since 1983, replaced the anterior cruciate ligament, which runs through the middle of the knee and provides stability. He said the medial collateral ligament, which runs along the side of the knee, was damaged "real bad."
"On a scale of one to three, it was a four," he said. "It was off the chart. It was pretty badly damaged -- shredded is the better term."
The kneecap dislocated when Palmer was hit, damaging tissue around it. There was also some cartilage damage, he said.
I debated a lot of people on what Carson's legacy should be, or how truly "great" he was as a player, but one thing I give him props for is the rehab from that injury. He threw himself into that 110% and I was amazed that he was back without missing a beat one year later.
...and I hate to be a stickler dik, but I definitely think CP's injury was a bit worse. That's not to say Joe's wasn't a huge injury as well.
