So I lean to replacing Bates, and using the money at the obvious elsewhere.
If we do this, I recommend picking up Marcus Maye on a one year prove-it deal to mentor a new draftee. He could be gotten for around $6M coming off an injury. He is a very solid FS and a good place holder until the draftee is ready. He will command big money the next season and we let him walk.
