Actually, it might mean that, depending on how the rest of FA goes with TE and the defense.
Bengals need RT, RG, and LG addressed first and foremost since the guys who currently would be starting in those spots are Carman, Adeniji, and Prince.
Do you really believe any of those guys is better than Hopkins right now?
I don't.
If you're gonna use PFF ratings, use the better numbers please. Stop using the full season numbers since we know he was recovering from injury the first half of the season and played way worse. Also, please separate out the pass block and run block numbers. His run blocking brings his total grade down.
Some tidbits of info for those that like to use PFF and believe in their ratings:
After the Bye week in regular season:
Trey Hopkins since the bye week along the OL:
— Andrew Russell (@PFF_AndrewR) December 27, 2021
72.7 pass-blocking grade: best on the OL
6 pressures allowed: best on the OL
0 sacks allowed: best on the OL
If Joe Burrow is just now feeling it since his knee injury, think its fair to say Hopkins might be as well. https://t.co/DJFQ2CE5hG
In the first 3 playoff games:
In this postseason, #Bengals center Trey Hopkins is playing his best football.
— Willie Lutz (@willie_lutz) February 12, 2022
? 79.4 PFF Passing Blocking Grade
? 1 pressure allowed on 124 passes
? 99.2% Pass Block Efficiency
More impressive considering he squared off with Chris Jones and Jeffery Simmons. #SuperBowl pic.twitter.com/MowimBY7tx
Including the Super Bowl, Hopkins had a PFF pass blocking grade of 72.3.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
