I guess when you're as popular as they are, just being "ok" is enough.
The "Rooneys" don't worry too much about anything. They believe in maintaining a consistent front office and sticking with things for the long haul.
Fans are more fickle.
*I* am a little tired of the same mistakes being made by Tomlin and him getting a pass because he "takes the blame himself" for them. But I don't know who would be better to lead the team either. For all his mistakes he provides what the team needs now in terms of leader / manager.
No one is ever happy with missing the playoffs. Steelers fans are never happy unless the steam wins the Super Bowl. Maybe, if you live long enough, you'll understand why that is such a lofty goal for a team to live up to.
