Reds WON opener with Cleveland. That gives Reds a chance to WIN Cleveland series. That would mean Reds haven't lost a series in 14 days.
I'll also make a comment on Votto. Reds started winning when Votto was out of the line-up. This is not the first season where Reds got hot when Votto was out of the line-up. When Votto comes back, that means they have to sit somebody who is helping Reds win. I am in no big hurry for Votto to return. Votto was struggling badly during Reds awful April and stat to May. Moose and Moran got hot playing with Votto taking a seat.
So while others wonder about Votto as always, I am more into the Reds winning the last 2 weeks. Votto is the highest paid Red ever, and I have been saying trade him for years. His contract finally runs out in 2024 or 2025, so we are getting to the end of it. Close enough that Reds can start planning spreading that money around to other player contracts in a few years. Just as when Griffey Jr left, the Reds got better, so it will be with Votto. I would hope Reds stay away from Griffey and Votto type contracts in the future. Why fans love to be in Last Place as they hero worship one high paid player past his prime is beyond me. Cincinnati is a small city franchise compared to New York or LA, even if some fans never grasp that. For Cincinnati to Win, they have to have Pitching and Defense and Clutch Hitting, most young players from the Minors, but also some old Vets on The Cheap. Reds Manager Jack McKeon went to Marlins and turned a losing team around to win the World Series in same year, and when asked about his old team Reds, McKeon said he would have never spent the money to get Griffey Jr.
BEAT CLEVELAND.....Reds are starting to WIN with Pitching, Defense, Clutch Hitting, mostly from the Minors, but some old Vets kind of on The Cheap. Notice they are winning without Votto, and this is not the first season they started winning without Votto. Luckily Reds are getting closer to the end of the Votto Contract. A couple more years, but it is no longer 10 years or 5 years left.
Certainly when Votto returns, I hope he earns some of his paycheck. His return will force somebody to get cut from the Reds. I kind of like the players who are helping the Reds win the last 2 weeks while Votto has been out.
I can explain this in term Bengal Fans can grasp. Dalton to AJ Green was good in it's day, but that day had passed. Look at what happened when Bengals could spend their contracts on new players, Super Bowl. Dusty Baker got credit for Reds starting to win, but really it was Griffey Jr and his contract running out and using that cash on new players. The Reds getting closer to the end of The Votto Contract is also a good thing. The Reds have some good Minor League Players moving up FAST, and Reds need a NEW DAY and Bengals needed a NEW DAY. WHO DEY to The NEW DAY. There comes a time when you have to go with Youth and a bunch of New, Good Players if you want to climb out of Last Place and Start Winning......However NFL TV Revenue Sharing puts Cincinnati Bengals in better shape to compete with New York and LA, than MLB and cities like Cincinnati. The Reds need to live on a Low Budget, but The Tampa Rays have shown it is very possible to beat The New York Yankees with a Low Budget Team. MLB forces small franchise cities such as Cincinnati to copy Tampa, not New York or LA.
Again, Reds winning yesterday gives Reds a chance to Win Cleveland Series. That would mean Reds haven't lost a series in 14 days. KEEP IT GOING. GO REDS.
