Then in round 2 the Reds take a catcher. Now if he develops, what happens to Stephenson. Well, Stephenson has had a lot of concussions. A person can only have so many of those. Votto is near the end. So getting Stephenson out from all those foul balls behind the plate and putting him at First to replace Votto would work. Stephenson has played First Base for Reds during Votto injuries when Reds still had Burkhardt.
So it is possible the Reds drafted the replacements to The Moose and Votto in the early rounds to develop in the Minors.
As much as some fans hate to see it, the days of Votto and Moose are nearing an end in Cincinnati. The Reds drafting 2 third basemen and a catcher in first 2 rounds sets up their replacements, with often concussion Stephenson maybe moving to first and out from behind the plate where more concussions would happen. Stephenson would have a longer career out from behind the plate, due to his concussion problems. Top pick Stephenson should have a long career.
If both third basemen develop, one of them could go to first. If the catcher develops, it opens up getting often concussion Stephenson out from catcher to a more safer first base. It would seem them Reds doubled down on draft picks to replace Votto and The Moose who's contracts run through 2023. These top picks will need Minor League time to develop, but they could be the answer to who plays third and first and catcher in the mid 2020's.
Kevin I highly doubt there are many Reds fans who want to see the suffering continue with these two.
