Because as somebody that I was debating with in another thread said, Wilcox at least can offer multiple things for the team. What does a backup long snapper do on Game Day? We can't criticise them for having no proper back up at Long Snapper... and ask them to rectify it by having less backup at TE, a position which is far more likely to need that help. Imagine if we had injuries at TE... we'd then be castrating the team for not having the backup.
The problem wasn't the roster spot, the problem was that the kicking unit looked completely unprepared the minute Harris went down. There's always a chance of that, and the team needed to be more mentally ready for it. Stuff like not missing a block on the XP, letting the clock bleed on a punt and downing the bad snap on the FG attempt... none of those errors were on Wilcox, they're on the guys who are meant to be helping him out. That's what's disappointing here. Just looked like the team were poorly prepared for it, even if it's an unlikely scenario.
