The last time Mixon played a full game he had 200+ yards and 5 TD’s.
Perine is doing a great job filling in, but some of you have short memories. Mixon is going to eat just as much (if not more) the way this OL is playing right now.
The 2nd to last time Mixon played a full game, he ran for 27 yards on 8 carries (3.4 ypc).
The 3rd to last time Mixon played a full game, he ran for 58 yards on 17 carries (3.4 ypc).
And, in that Panthers game, Perine ran it for 51 yards on 6 carries (8.5 ypc), which was a better yards per carry average than Mixon (7.0).
I don't think people's memories are as short as you think. Maybe using Mixon's one elite game (an outlier) as justification for benching Perine is the thought held by people with short memories.
I think Mixon will still be an asset to the team when he comes back, but Perine has earned more snaps even when Mixon is back. He is a much better blocker than Mixon, seems to fall forward and fight for extra yards better than Mixon, and is just as good of a receiver (or arguably better because he gets those tough yards for conversions).
