I think we're out of range for the best OT prospects like Peter Skoronski, Broderick Jones and Paris Johnson Jr, so the first two players I'm looking at in this draft are Darnell Wright and Dawand Jones. Big strong RT prospects that would help in the running game and would not be a massive liability in the passing game. If we exit the 2nd round with one of those two guys, I'll feel pretty good about our Oline in 2023. If we're relying on Collins and Adeniji at RT, we're in trouble. We've made the mistake of thinking okay was good enough. Let's turn this Oline into a legitimate strength and not fall victim to a late game quick sack/QB hit with the season on the line for the 3rd time in a row.
Beyond them, there are so many CBs and edge defenders at the top of this draft, I could see a surprising value at 28 with one of them. 8 CBs and 11 edge players in the top 50 is a dense class, for sure.
We only need depth at these two positions, with Hendrickson/Hubbard/Ossai probably taking ~75% of the total edge snaps and Awuzie, CTB, Hilton and possibly Apple (as the first off the bench) taking ~90% of the CB snaps over the course of the season, but a pass rush specialist would be a welcome addition and depth at CB is always nice, especially with Awuzie coming off of injury and heading into a contract year.
At CB, I particularly like Emmanuel Forbes and Christian Gonzalez. These two are playmakers who would fit in perfectly with our opportunistic defense. Forbes is probably more athletic, but isn't as physical as Gonzalez so there's a little bit of give and take between the two.
At Edge, I like Derick Hall and and Will McDonald IV. They both are great pass rushers but leave a little to be desired in stopping the run. I'd personally stay away from Felix Anudike-Uzomah and Lukas Van Ness. Both seem like decent pass rushing DEs that may be best at setting the line against the rush at the next level. We already have Hubbard and Sample for that. We need a speedster to collapse the pocket.
And finally, I'd think about Darnell Washington. He's a 6th lineman on run plays who can also catch the ball. That would help so many facets of our team. We don't necessarily need another receiving threat, but someone who can help the run game without signaling run to the defense would be clutch.
There are obviously other players who would be fine additions, but those are the players and positions that I'd be focusing on in the first 2 rounds.
