DS was a 4th rounder project. Looking like a lost cause but was worth the throw of the dart so to speak.
If you're idea to complain about players on rookie contracts are averaging out to roughly 4 3rd round picks (1+2+4+6/4) and that's your justification to not spend 1 1st to shore up the one glaring weakness on the unit, then idk what can be said to help you see the light.
