These fines are pretty much meaningless when you consider players are paid like corporate CEO's. Burfict recieved a 4 year, $19,004,000 contract so a $70,000 fine is like me getting fined a pack of gum...actually probably just a part of a pack of gum. His 4 year deal divided by 70k is 271.485 and I seriously doubt he'll get fined 70K 271 times in 4 years.
When fans feign outrage I just scratch my head. I'd be far more outraged if I was fined $70,000 being my monthly income is $733 from social security. To put it in perspective his $70k fine would be equivalent to me being fined $2.70 for some "egregious incident" so these fines are pretty much meaningless. If they really wanted to have an impact and change players behavior they would toss them out of games and suspend them significant playing time, but instead they fine them a pack of gum and pretend they're doing something.
