So where do we go from here? I'm not saying Greene is washed up, he's just 24 years old. But my hopes of somehow making the postseason this year have totally evaporated. It's gonna take some innings for him to get back on track.
I'd argue it's a strong overreaction on Greene.
It's his first game back from injury in like 2 months.
Could he have spent more time at LOU rather than come back and blow a start like that? Sure, but the other option to pitch in his place might not have really done much better.
It sucks to see a result like that when the Reds are so close to the division lead this late in the season, but I've almost come to just say, "Whatever happens, happens" given the lack of moves at the trade deadline.
They clearly are interested in setting up for 2024. If the postseason is achieved this year, that's just a bonus.
I'd like to think they'll be willing to spend some this offseason since Votto's contract can come off the books and they likely got some extra money from ticket sales this summer while the team was doing (way) better than expected.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
