I didn't discover this until 2015/2016, when I met my Romanian friend: in Europe, the two nations and their people get along super well (especially Northern Italy, where I'm from) and have for a very long time.
Probably has something to do with them being the only Latin-speaking country in the East AND because the Eastern Roman Empire settled there after they were toppled. Their language is actually fairly-similar to ours (much more difficult than ours, of course) and immigrants from either country pick up the languages after only like a month of living there.
