They'll definitely be in the running. We have improved in a lot of areas this off season. Improved starting pitcher depth (Added Frankie Montas, Nick Martinez and Nick Lodolo is coming back), improved bullpen depth (Nick Martinez, Emilio Pagan, Brent Suter), Jeimer Candelario replacing Joey Votto/Nick Senzel is an upgrade.
Then we have a second year coming for Abbott, EDLC, McLain, CES, Marte, Steer, and Benson.
We went 82-80 last season and missed the playoffs by about 1.0 games. The Brewers have gotten worse, the Cardinals are assembling the oldest rotation in league history (the projected starting 5 are 32, 34, 35, 36, and 36 for an average of 34.6 years old), and the Pirates and Cubs have mostly treaded water. As long as the rookies don't crater, I think we have a good shot at adding 3 to 7 wins to our 2023 win total and enter the playoffs as division champions.
