Others are better at contract stuff than me, but typically, teams will spread the signing bonus out over as many years as possible to lower the cap hit later.
So, yes, if it is structured normally, it would. If he signed a 3yr deal with a $25 mil signing bonus, we would probably pro-rate that over the two yars prior to the new contract kicking in as well, so $5 mil a year.
However, we certainly don't need to extend Chase now. It certainly seems like he wants to wait until Jefferson resets the market. Which may not happen if he comes close to hit FA.
