RANK OUR TEs (2024)

What I do know is that now I wouldn't be shocked if he has his best season thus far with Joe Burrow as his QB. Question now is how much will the TE position be featured in this offense with all the other weapons??

I'll say middle of the road.

To each of you I would say that Gesicki's career obviously hasn't been Kelce level (he isn't a "complete" TE in that way). He is more of a big slot wr - which the Bengals have NEVER really had at #1 on the TE depth chart in the sense of the player leaning so heavily in that way.

It's really tough to gauge exactly what to expect from him. The role he's filling in this offense is NOT anything we've ever had in Cincy, with Burrow, Taylor... even Carson/Andy, & Marvin.

As far as his career is concerned, to me at least, it's tough to judge that fairly. He had 3 different starting QBs in his first 3 seasons in Miami (Tanny, Fitzpatrick, rookie Tua). Multiple head coaches & multiple offenses - I think he has had a new OC &/or had to learn a new offense EVERY year of his career thus far.

- To me, it's perfect reasonable to expect bigger plays from Gesicki at the TE position than Boyd put together from the slot over the course of an entire season. I'm not entirely convinced that Gesicki's value is NOT in exceeding Boyd, Hurst, or even Uzomah's total numbers, but instead by exceeding their big plays when needed. Like, when the other team decides to take Chase & Higgins away, is Gesicki up to making them pay in those moments the Bengals need a first down on 3rd & long, a chunk play down the seam, or a TD on 3rd & 14 in the red zone. Or, and this is tougher to be able to discern or see in a game just because of the TV angles.... Gesicki being threatening enough to where the defense has to pay attention or respect him enough that the other players have an easier time. late in the season has Gesicki proven dangerous enough that a down the seam or sideline route by him going to allow Burton, Brown, Moss, or Irwin a big catch and run underneath to get into FG range at the end of a half or game?

I guess what I'm saying is that maybe it's too simple to look at his career so far due to the tough circumstances of being in an an org like the Dolphins while they were going through constant turmoil and maybe we, as Bengals fans, should look at Gesicki and try to define ways that we think would make him a really valuable asset in THIS offense.
