Usually those backup DTs aren't refined anyway, so you'd be taking a gamble on someone regardless.
At least Carter and Tufele know the system.
Anyone coming in new would be learning from the beginning of the season, which I don't see happening.
And if the thought is a veteran, it would have to be someone arguably washed up looking to just be a rotational guy on a contender.
I'm not sure the Bengals would be willing to go that route while trying to figure out Chase's (and Higgins's) new contract(s).
I don't know who has such a glut of IDL talent that they'd be cutting someone with real good potential that the Bengals could pick up.
Well I mean we had Billings for years before he went to the Browns and Bears and shined. It isn't out of the realm of possibility
that we could find a DT better than Carter that is for damn sure. I still like Tufele a bit so hoping he gets back to his play from
before last year but Carter has the one run stop against the Vikings last year and that is about it. He hasn't shown pass rush at
least nothing us Geno Atkins Bengals fans were used to.
