There was a USA Today pre-draft article about the RBs coming out that year. Warrick Dunn, Tikki Barber, Antowain Smith and Dillon were listed, among others. Antowain Smith was the only one of similar size, but Dillon's 40 time was listed as sub 4.4. That was him as a 22-23 year old. If anyone remembers that article, please verify.
I recall thinking, a 6-2, 225 bruiser who can flat out fly, is not going to last beyond the first 10 picks. When Bengals picked him in the second round, I couldn't believe it.
He fell in the draft because of attitude/personality issues.
Spot on. Dillon was extremely talented and with that often comes attitude/personality issues. A dude that size running that fast is very rare.
That is why Derrick Henry was special in his prime which I hope is over. Big, fast, physical RB's like Dillon/Henry are rare that can out run Secondary's.
As much as I liked Braelon Allen in this last Draft he was just a power Back and couldn't out run many Defenders, just lay them out.
