Like Nick Martinez when he threw 23 out of 24 first pitch strikes. That's how you go long in games as long as you're not serving them up on a platter.

I remember watching a video on pitching, like mid 90's maybe? And this ML pitching coach was talking to a small group of aspiring young ML hopefuls. He started out with words to the effect of " ok fellas, what's the most important pitch in baseball? " The answers he got where fastball, offspeed, so on and he came back, "strike one".
Point is I've always though that lately the Reds staff tries to nibble to much ! Trying to rely on guys swinging at stuff well out of the strike zone. And of course they end up putting themselves in bad situations way more than they should be. Throwing way more pitches than they should and so on.
Hopefully the new staff will stop teaching and/or letting them rely on stuff out of the zone.
