I'm old enough that I saw the 1970 Bengals start 1-6 on the season and make the play-offs. On the play-offs they lost to the Johnny Unitas Colts who won the Super Bowl. So if a 1-6 team can get in, why not a 5-8 team that wins out and goes 9-8....The Defense would have to play much better, but who knows, maybe the Defense will play better down the stretch.
Ugh, the Colts lost to the Jets in Super Bowl III.
