He's John Ross, but more immature. The Bengals need to do a better job of acknowledging their draft mistakes and moving on early. The sooner they pass the veridict on these guys, the sooner they can add actual help to the roster.
I mean Ross had about double the production Burton has had his first true season.
2017 Ross (13 games) - 210 yards, 7 TDs
2024 Burton (11 games) - 107 yards, 0 TDs
Yes, Burton's YPC is far higher than Ross's was, but you have to ask yourself why a guy with that much speed only has 4 receptions and 14 targets in a year where Higgins has missed 5 games.
Burton had the opportunity this year to either A) give the Bengals confidence in letting Higgins walk, or B) supplanting Iosivas as WR3.
He's done neither of those things.
I'm not giving up on a rookie 3rd rounder because that's not fair, but he didn't impress like I thought he would have. I thought at the time of the selection the Bengals got a steal of a pick, who was a 2nd rounder talent-wise.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
