More guaranteed $$ in the form of bigger signing bonuses which the player gets immediately, but for cap purposes gets spread out over the length of the contract. Thus a lower part of the cap hit is actually salary.
You may ne able to get away with fewer years if you do it this way. Or with performance/PT incentives late on in the deal.
