There's no guarantee you lose him and spend on improving the defense. You may spend that money and be in the same place.
They need to keep the top end talent and hope they hit in the draft and pick up some help elsewhere. This defense doesn't have to be top shelf. It just needs to be middle of the road.
He looks like a #1 because Ja'Marr is drawing the #1 CB and additional help. He is today's TJ Houshmandzadeh, looking like a stud because Ocho is drawing extra attention and the focus of the defense.
Also not accounting for receiving balls from Joe Burrow, the rightful leading MVP candidate.
Tee is a top end #2, losing more points for not being able to stay healthy.
He is easily replaceable.
