Holding out through regular season games is rare because teams pay the players...
-Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, Jordan Love, and CeeDee Lamb all were holding out and didn't practice until they got paid. (Chase is the outlier.)
-Haasan Reddick held out and didn't play the first 7 weeks until he got close-ish to the point where if he held out anymore it would cut into his year of service.
-Davante Adams was too "unhealthy" to play for the Raiders for 3 weeks until he magically healed 100% once being traded.
That was all just this year. The idea that they have almost zero leverage is kind of silly because if they're a great player you're going to be missing them, and while you're missing them they're a distraction. Plus there's legitimate weight to the public media shaming an owner gets if it's a player that clearly should be paid and they don't. Hendrickson has 1 year left of being underpaid and has back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons and is coming off an All-Pro season. Heading into his age 31 season, if he doesn't try to get his final payday now he never will.
If you want All-Pro players, you need to pay them.
