Really good teams get more calls, well, because their legacy skews it that way.  Refs, etc are human, and they have bias.

The way to stop it is to beat them.....

I would argue it is super hard to beat these good teams when they are getting 2 to 3 free, bogus first downs a game (typically on 3rd down) and they seem to be able to hold without getting called for it.  Meanwhile the other teams defense stays on the field after getting a 3rd down stop a few times tiring them out and, what do you know, that teams 2 best plays are called back for holding...

The refs can very easily change the outcome of the game and they clearly do.
