It's funny you blame Mulugheta for stalling the Higgins negotiations, but Higgins has openly said that in the '22-'23 offseason the Bengals offer never even reached $20m/yr despite that being when he was coming off back-to-back 1k seasons, so they stopped negotiating for over a year because it was such a lowball.
Oh, I had an idea, I just can't figure why they kick the can down the road when they can do themselves a favor (in many ways) by signing guys early.
It's painful to face the likely reality of them being so in love with young players on cheap deals that they'd cut their noses of in spite of their faces to cling to the rookie years. I think that's exactly how they operate.
