I get what you're saying, he's a little older than Crosby, you don't want Trey out there as a 3 down guy at his age. However, it's not like he "sucks" at defending the run, as evidenced by his TFL total, that just about matches his sack total. Sure, teams are going to sneak runs at him because they know the down and distance situation and know he's coming for the QB.

To put it in a different context, Sam Hubbard is widely regarded as being tough versus the run. In Sam's 7 year career, he accumulated exactly 55 TFL, just one less than Trey did over the past 4 years with the Bengals.
