BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded

I thought team owners and GM's agree on trades.  I've never heard of a player doing his own trade before.  I have the feeling Bengals and another team would still have to agree on a trade and go through all the legal lawyer paperwork.  It seems to me with Tobin wanting both Higgins and Chase long term as 2 of the highest paid WR;s in NFL, that the trade of Hendrickson if done would be for a Draft Pick or Draft Picks.  With Hubbard retiring and talk of trading Hendrickson, new D Coach Golden will have The Worst defense in NFL to rebuild, no easy task. They may have to give him every draft pick because The D is so awful.

It’s not Trey calling GM’s, it’s his agent. And the conversation starts with “how much does Trey want”. If the team would accept his contract demands or be in that ballpark, then they go to the Bengals and discuss compensation for the trade. Then that team has to decide if it’s worth the cap hit and the trade compensation to acquire Trey Hendrickson.

Like others have said this allows Trey to see if he’s really worth what he thinks he is. It’s a gamble by bengals because one side is going to be right. Trey or the bengals. And it’s probably Trey. Then the second half of the equation is will the bengals actually trade him. I don’t think they will. He’s under contract and they can franchise tag him next year and the year after that if they want. At 30 years old, can Trey really sit out the next 3 years and expect to get another contract? Can he sit out even 1 year? I don’t think so.

Unless Bengals are given a first round pick, I don’t think he gets traded. Bengals are very stubborn, I don’t see them letting him go for a 3rd. You can let him walk after next year and get a comp 3rd round pick. And his savings against the cap is only 16M. That’s so cheap, he’s a bargain for the bengals, why would they give up their bargain price contract on an All Pro talent.
