BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded
(03-07-2025, 12:05 PM)Tomcat Wrote: So if Trey ends up back with the Bengals and they do nothing to his contract and he sits out the year what happens next year, is he still under team control for next year or does he become an UFA?

Good point. I understand the contract would just roll over. So, the likelihood of Trey sitting out a full season is pretty much nil. But if he has a gripe that he found a team willing to pay him beaucoup dollars and the Bengals will neither pay him or trade him, I suppose he could sit out a substantial portion of the season and reach free agency the next year. But I think if Trey found a team willing to give him a lot of money and guarantees, and the Bengals were not willing to give him the same, then the Bengals would probably trade him, even for lesser value. Team chemistry would be shot if the Bengals stood between Trey and his getting a shot at securing his NFL future once he found a team.
