With that said, when I see truly great offensive or defensive schemes, I see coordinators who morph around the great players they have.

I worry he didn't mesh well with a lot of the defensive players.
If we don't see much improvement on the defensive side of the ball and especially if it gets worse, the team will hear it from the fans.
Bengals can't afford to have a 3rd consecutive down year while Burrow is in his prime.
I've seen some interesting thoughts on here about Burrow's power in the situation being exaggerated. On paper that may be true. In practice, this organization will never recover from the chain of events that follows if and when 9 goes public with any kind of real desire to get out.
They will hemorrhage ST holders immediately. Sponsors will dry up as they did before he arrived. The media will drag them 365 days a year. Any good will built up over the last 6 years will be gone.
What's more, absolutely nobody, be it Hamilton County voters (who still hate the family for the last stadium deal) or city officials will want the Brown family turd hanging around their neck. No renovation deal, no further development. This will mean the team likely doesn't remain here. The family is on the hook to meet the moment here.
