Who says they are not working on the priority contracts at the same time? Those are usually much more complex and take more time. All the different bonuses, when they will kick in, guaranteed money and such. All the back and forth between players, agents and team. Where someone like Hudson who will probably play for close to league minimum is more like, "Hey you want to make about 2 million and play here again this year?" Re-signing Hudson doesn't mean that is all the team has been working on.
