It wouldn't surprise me if Golden were to rip up "his scheme" from college and try to rip off what the best defenses do in the pros. Does anyone believe that running a ton of cover one is going to work in the NFL in 2025? The run/pass splits are so wildly different in the pros. Does it really make sense to prioritize the same skills or concepts against the best QBs in the world? The Fangio style is all the rage right now. Using overload formations, bluffing the blitz, and using stunts to create chaos seem more effective than the sort of passive, orderly mush rush and gap integrity style at the moment. Which type of defense sounds scarier to use against Joe Burrow? A passive mush rush/gap integrity type of pressure scheme where they try to get coverage sacks? Or a scheme where rushers can knife upfield to generate instantaneous pressure?
