National media will take the lazy approach and latch on to the Bengals as contenders because of Burrow and Zac being a head coach who has won an AFC title. Even then, plenty of national media are critical about the Bengals and don't view them as Super Bowl contenders. They aren't going to know the ins-and-outs of the organization like the local media do. Local media in Cincinnati are never going to go the route of big media in NY or Philadelphia and overly be critical because they know the organization will shut them out from doing their job. It's definitely not "only" a message board occurrence.
