As it turns out, there was really no option other than signing both Chase and Higgins. The agent Rocky Arceneaux (if reports are accurate) made it clear there would not be any deal with Chase unless there was one for Higgins. So, if the Bengals were backed into a corner and if these are the Dan Fouts Chargers (because the money is not there to bring in top free agents on defense), then the Bengals have to find some way to make it work in terms of a Super Bowl.
So, we can discuss "at least, they will be fun to watch" as trying to put some positive spin on a less-than-desirable situation (conveyed by at least), but the Bengals have to find a way to either break the mold that defense wins championships or have some major breakthroughs with the talent they have or acquire in the draft. Because these, I believe, were the only cards there were actually available.
