The league does not make players honor their contracts. SO you might sign a player like Chase or Higgins cheaper initially, but they are just going to want to renegotiate as soon as someone else is making more than them. 

I think it's a risk of front loading contacts too. Player gets large percentage of money in 1st few years, then later not as much...
