Is he going to be a "good" starter though right out of the gate, is my concern.
Technically Volson was a starter Week 1 of his rookie year, but he was never "good."
I know I'm biasing the player because of the school/conference, but typically we have seen a bigger adjustment needed for FCS guys compared to their FBS counterparts due to jump in level of competition they have been going against for the previous 3+ years. Even if that FCS player ends up being good by or before the end of their rookie contracts.
I'm not denying Zabel's long-term ability, just asking will he be ready to hit the ground running against NFL DL in by early September of this year? I don't want yet another year of slow starts and end up affecting playoff appearance/seeding because of it.
I'm not saying this because I've watched clips of him and have doubts. I literally never heard of the dude and haven't watched anything on him. Just purely basing him off coming from FCS and being jaded by Volson.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
