What folks need to understand about a 5th-year option is how the salary is determined. Ecalators include playing time, 1 Pro Bowl, more than 1 ProBowl.
"Luckily" (ironic I know) Dax didn't hit any escalators and we'll get for about $12 Mil. Even though Linderbaum has had a much better career, Bal declined the 5th year as he's cost $23. They would rather just sign him long-term ASAP:
