By a strict definition of “always”, you’re technically right, but not because of the examples you’re offering.  They finished 8-8 four times in the last twenty years which means that, no, they did not always finish at least 9-8 or 9-7.  But the times they finished better than that absolutely count as “at least”, and I’m not sure why you’re not getting that.  

I don't think you are in the league of any my students and would not be able to sit in any of the classes that I teach.
