The Bengals gave him permission to seek the trade. NO ONE wanted to give up a 1st rounder. And you just want the Bengals to give him up for less? He's had 17.5 sacks the last two years, I would n't trade him to a team for less than a first either. Trey's problem is no one wanted to give up the draft capital AND pay him what he wants. You're the one who is ridiculous to suggest the Bengals should just let him go for less than a first because he whines.
I don't know why you're stuck on "hendrickson's agent said they could get a first", as if the only thing the Bengals would accept is a 1st. They know what they're willing to offer. They undoubtedly have a clue on what his return would be. They also undoubtedly understand that no team in the NFL is going to give up a first round pick, whether it's the #1OA or the 32nd pick. That price is too high--giving up a young 1st rounder for a 30/31 yr old vet. That's likely why they said go ahead, see if you can get a 1st, KNOWING that it's not going to happen. It was more a move to show them that it's not a possibility. There are only so many Hue Jacksons in the world.
I'm not even sure where you got that i just want them to give him away for whatever. I've never said anything of the sort.
If the Bengals were honest about trading him and getting the best offer they could, they would listen to other team's offers and choose the best one, thanking Trey for the years and bidding him farewell. They didn't sit there and say, "ok, you said a first, so it's a first or bust". They're standing fast on the 1st because they know that no one will offer that, which leaves them in the drivers seat, where Trey's only other option is retirement. They are exactly the kind of organization that will say, "take our offer or retire. full stop".
If you take the time to read the things he's said, it's EASY to see that he's trusted them every step of the way, up until recently, believing they would eventually come to terms with him. That has been Trey's biggest mistake; trusting anything this organization says. They have LONG, established history of being penny-pinching misers that dig their heels in and won't budge from a line they draw. Why people continue to defend this organization completely baffles me.
"Last year and the year before I've been talking about long-term contract, guaranteed money, things like that. It was discussed with me in a meeting, which I'm very fortunate to have had with my agent, that we would get something done this year. So that being said, last year, 'Go out and play, play at the level you have, we'll get it done' -- that was communicated with me. So basically, this year, it's going to get worked on. They also reiterated that at the combine. So that just kind of clears the air on that. Moving forward, the happiness of my camp ... [the Bengals] are more than welcome to call me. I've had my cell phone, same cell phone number since high school, open line of communication is always open with me and my agents.
"Full transparency, I'm not going to go into all the details, I think there are things that I'm willing to do and not willing to budge on," Hendrickson told McAfee on Wednesday. "I don't think I want to play for incentives that will be out of my control. I don't think I want to play for a short-term contract and see where it goes. I would like to tell my wife here is where we're going to live, here's where we're going to build a family together. Some of those things come from what I've been able to do on a football field. I like that to do the talking for me."
"When I say [communication's] been poor, it's been like here and there," he said. "Respect to Ja'Marr and Tee. I don't want to take anything away from all the great things they've accomplished in their careers, they deserve everything that they've gotten, and (there's) no doubt in my mind they're going to excel in the National Football League. I have a tremendous respect for both of them, but when it comes to my situation, it would have been nice to know in some ways like, 'Hey, we're going to put you in the queue.' No problem with me. My wife and I try to be as humble as possible as Christ-loving people. So we don't have any desires of being highest-paid or first in line. We try to be as patient as possible."

One NFL general manager feels the Cincinnati Bengals have placed a "ridiculous" asking price on a trade for star edge-rusher Trey Hendrickson, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
Dan Graziano of ESPN reported something similar Wednesday, saying on Get Up prospective suitors have been "turned off" by Cincinnati's trade demands.

This cheap ass organization offers their cheap ass deals, then digs in, knowing they hold the cards and not giving a shit what anyone else things and some of you fans still buy into their shit, hook line and sinker, continuing year after year to watch this team come up short. As long as those fans exist, nothing will change and you and others will never see them win a ring.
They don't care about getting the best deal they can for him. He's their property and he can take what they offer or he can quit playing football. It's the Brown way and it's made them very wealthy and they don't give a shit whether you ever get to celebrate a championship or not.
