We all know that that scenario will never occur. So no, every player will not want a raise if you give one to Trey. The team takes when players underperform.
You have to have your head buried pretty deep in the sand to suggest that what a top 5 player on the roster and elite player in the league does will impact "every player".
In case you haven't been watching, almost every high end player in the league wants a raise when he outperforms his deal. Most teams deal with this at some point. It just happens to be our turn now.
Agree with all of this. We don't have alot of players that are top 5ish at their positions. We've signed the others already and if we end up with more than all the better. I also made the point that the final year of contracts only exists with the middle of the road players anymore as the elite want a new contract and the bad are cut or take a paycut. The Bengals have shown they are all on board with the latter so you can't be upset at the elite players.
I still just think the Bengals never intended to sign Trey unless he was willing to take what they felt was a bargain. The way they did the contracts this year left very little money and then they drafted Stewart in rd 1. I saw reports they had a couple of DTs ahead of Stewart in rd 1 so maybe it was open until that pick.
Really no reason for the Bengals not to sign him other than being cheap. He hasn't hung on to the guaranteed money in the past so most likely he won't now. Give him the money and years he wants and if he doesnt live up to it towards the tail end then part ways and save some money.
