Because he only played about half a season's worth of snaps (562) last year. From looking online, he ended up starting 10 games primarily because of injuries to the New Orleans OL, not because he was the planned starter upon signing. And he covered primarily LG last year, but being asked to play RG on the Bengals.
Year before that, full-time starter but at C, not OG.
Year before that (2022), only 269 offensive snaps played, splitting about equal time between LG and RG in those limited snaps before going down to a toe injury that knocked him out the rest of the season.
Year before that (2021), full time starter but primarily at C again, not OG.
He hasn't played a heavy amount of RG snaps since 2020 - five years ago.

There's understandable concern that he's 1) not really going to play at his best position (which is probably C), and 2) may not be durable enough to hold up at OG for a full season, resulting still in the likes of Ford or Volson filling in, which not many really would be happy to see.

I think most see/saw Patrick as really what they would prefer as the 6th OL or what Cody Ford has been serving, not what we really want in a planned full-season starter at RG.
