They would have to win every game and the Giants to lose every game (they could, they play LAD) and the two teams between them (STL, SD) to fall behind the Reds too.
While they're still clearly in the race more than halfway through the season, it'd be nice instead saying "they're so close to the WC, just X games back" to say "they're in the WC right now, keep it!"
We've been seeing this with the Reds the past few years where they sit right around .500 into July and we keep hoping they turn the corner, but they never do.
Last year, they were just 1 game under .500 as late in the season as Aug 14, but they just couldn't quite get there.
Year before that, they got as high as 10 games ABOVE .500 on July 8 (2nd to last game before ASB) and in the driver's seat for the postseason and still ended the season just 2 games above .500 missing the playoffs.
Hoping this year is different, but with what we've seen so far, I'm not confident it happens unless they make some trades between the ASB and EOM July.
An everyday RF who is a proven hitter, 1-2 quality RPs, and maybe 1 SP would help a ton.
I still have my fingers crossed that they're going to pull a '21 Bengals where they hover around .500 then go on a run late.
Maybe i need to get in my car and throw a world-class rant/tantrum on my way to and from work like i did during the 'niners game that year...
