Because his dad got fired from the team he co-founded and coached to championships, which caused them to have to relocate and start all over. I'm sure that left an indelible mark on him and helped shape the type of person he was. 

Also, it's possible that people today don't realise what a money-miser Paul Brown was. The apple didn't really have to fall far from the tree there.
