The Bengals have had one of the worst defenses in NFL in 2023 and 2024 the last two seasons. So the Bengals have not been a good team the last two seasons. Yes, they were a good team in 2021 and 2022, but bad defense has killed them the last two seasons.
If Bengals can't get Hendrickson to play on defense, or the #1 draft pick defensive end, that is bad news for one of the worst defenses in NFL.
So the Bengals have Burrow, Chase, Higgins and other WR's and a solid back-up QB. The Bengals have more RB's and TE's than they can have on the team start of the season. However on Defense the Bengals are weak. Golden can only coach, Bengals need more quality players on Defense. Without Defense The Bengals Will Be A Last Place Team.
None of the Offensive players people are mentioning to me play on Defense. Some of you think this team can win with just Offense. The last two Bengals seasons show you can not make play-offs with a lousy Defense. The Super Bowl showed the power of a dominate Philly Defense. So Defense does matter if you want play-off wins and Super Bowl.
Between Now and Regular Season, the Bengals need to pull a rabbit out of their hat and add some quality Defensive players. However they are burning daylight by not having them in Training Camp and Pre Season, which could mean they won't be ready to Win games in September as usual, starting with a loss at Cleveland.
They will have to cut some of these RB's and TE's, because they can't all be on the roster. So maybe cutting a Zac Moss and some others is the rabbit out of the hat to add defense. I just hope it's not too little and too late. Withoutt defense, Bengals will not win at Cleveland, and another losing start to season as usual.
I still think coaching was the biggest problem with the Defense the last couple of years. That and not bringing back Bates and Reader. Defense
has to tackle and not give up explosive plays. Early last season our entire DT room was injured, Rankins blew, Kris Jenkins and McKinnley Jackson
were rookies, Pratt still sucked at tackling, same with Stone.
Under new coaching our Defense could certainly be much better with our young guys growing into their own. We need Trey in the fold though that
is for damn sure or we need to add an End like Za'Darius Smith or someone. Hobby our old DL coach couldn't coach anybody up, the Linebackers
regressed under Bettcher etc.
Cutting Zack Moss will eventually happen I think, but that isn't in order to add to the Defense as cutting him doesn't save hardly any money as
Luvnit said. We can add to the Defense before cutting Moss. I understand your concerns about the Defense but young players need to be allowed
to grow and we have some good youngs with lots of talent. Good coaching could unlock their abilities, we will see.
