Yes, and those other teams were having improved bonus payouts compared to what the Bengals normally do.
The point was that if you want to make a player accept a negative change in their contract compared to what the previous guy (Mims) got, you need to give something in return. The Bengals were wanting concessions without giving up ANYTHING in return. Simply accepting one-sided demands isn't a negotiation, and is a terrible precedent to set.
I highly doubt that $500k was all they originally wanted, but again, it's called compromise.
