There are specific differences between 3-4 and 4-3 responsibility (run defense in 2 point stance/rush in three point), where the DE lines up relative to the outside foot of the offensive "end", how does the DE line up (perpendicular to or in an angle to the line), etc.
As an off topic, the weakness in the wide alignment in traditional 4-3 is defending the run and exposing the C-Gap - unless the DT is in 3 tech or a LB is protecting it..
Depends on spacing too. A 43 DE can play anywhere from 5t all they way out to 9t. (Besides heads up on the TE 6t or 7t depending on who taught you the system)
