There are specific differences between 3-4 and 4-3 responsibility (run defense in 2 point stance/rush in three point), where the DE lines up relative to the outside foot of the offensive "end", how does the DE line up (perpendicular to or in an angle to the line), etc.
As an off topic, the weakness in the wide alignment in traditional 4-3 is defending the run and exposing the C-Gap - unless the DT is in 3 tech or a LB is protecting it..
That's the crazy/interesting/fun thing about schemes and 'games' and strategy. It's like playdoh. You can shape and mold it so many ways and it can keep you busy for hours going over all the things you can do with just 22 guys on a field.
