Update on Brad from his brother last night.
Quote:Brad Update:
It’s been a little while since I have posted an update, mainly because it’s been much of the same. Lots of resting and waiting for his body to heal. However, today was one of the more significant set backs we have had since his accident. One of the bigger issues he has is the broken pelvis. He has been non-weight bearing up to this point (cannot stand or transfer out of bed). Brad had a follow up with his ortho surgeon to see how his surgically repaired arm was healing and revisit the pelvis fracture. He was able to get staples and stitches removed from his right arm, but the news on the pelvis was not what we were expecting. It is not healing as they had thought which means they want to keep him non-weight bearing for 3 or 4 more weeks. This means he cannot transfer from his bed to his chair and will have to continue using the lift in his room to get him out of bed. It may not seem like a huge deal, but not being able to completete simple daily activities (like using the restroom) is a big step for his overall recovery and independence. That will have to wait. As you can imagine, it was not the news Brad was hoping for. His ribs, pelvis and arm continue to be the main sources of his pain. He wants nothing more than to be home but we can’t do that without 24hr care if he is unable to transfer on his own.
This took some wind out of his sails. Champ is as strong as they come but it’s tough mentally when you aren’t getting the progress you are expecting. We will push forward and deal with it like we do everything else, but it sure would be nice for him to catch a break! We have to focus on the fact that we are blessed he is still here with us and his body will heal………..it’s just going to be a longer road ahead of us.
I am beyond proud of how he is handling it all. He has his moments but he is a warrior. Its incredible. Most would have already given up. I don’t know how he does it. All we can do is support him and pray his body continues to recover. He is worn out and tired, but the fight is still there. Champ is Champ.
From Brad and our entire family, Thank You! We are forever grateful. Please keep the prayers and support coming. It’s working.
