The joint at the base of the thumb is the most common place in the body for osteoarthritis as well as inflammatory arthritis. It can cause a weakened grip and there may be some instability. Proper taping could help deal with that. Other than those issues it’s a pain tolerance thing. A joint injection might help. But yeah, while it’s going to be painful, a 22 year old professional football player should be able to handle it.
That makes Mr believe it may involve soft tissue such as a ligament or tendon tear which can cause issues of its own.
