There was no reason to start this game when it was still pouring down rain, and not even finish the 1st inning. The weather radar showed it was a rain out. The announcers said this doesn't hurt The Braves because they are not in a play-off race, but it hurts The Reds who are. Somebody needs called on the carpet for starting that game in pouring rain and such awful conditions.
So NO, Burns can't pitch until almost next weekend. You don't ruin a good starter by starting him 2 days in a row.
I know it was on National TV and all set up for Tennessee and a special event. However it was pouring rain non stop, the radar showed no chance to play game. Whoever decided to start the game around 9 after a 2 hour rain delay needs fired. It was pouring rain, awful conditions, the infield they made at the car racetrack turned into a lake. Players couldn't field or play in that. They are lucky players didn't get injured. Starting that game in pouring rain and not even getting an inning in, was just stupid. And it takes a start away from Burns, who can't pitch again until late in week.
So Francona has to come up with a starting pitcher on what was suppose to be an off day. Somebody that hasn't started since Monday or Tuesday. The people that decided to start this game didn't hurt The Braves not in play-off hunt, but they hurt The Reds. Francona was letting the umpires have it when the game was stopped in the 1st inning. The game should have never started. A thrown together field in the pouring rain, with radar showing the game could not be played. Whoever said to start it, needs fired.
Hopefully better weather Sunday and Tennessee gets this game and concert afterwards. Hopefully FOX can move things to still show it National TV. Hopefully Reds win. However Burns can't start again until Thursday or Friday. You don't ruin him by starting him 2 days in a row, he is done and back in 5 man rotation.
If it hadn't been this Tennessee thing, the game never starts in pouring rain, and even this shouldn't have started in rain so bad they couldn't finish one inning.
It wasn't raining though when the game started at 9:40. It really started and picked up after the top of 1. They must have thought that batch of rain would stay north of them but it didn't. Reds were originally off today (Sunday) and Burns isn't scheduled to pitch again until Saturday. With Burns only throwing 15 pitches the possibility might be there for him to continue. Reds have Undecided, Lodolo and Littell against the Cubs Mon-Wed and Abbott, Singer, Burns and Lodolo against the Pirates Thurs-Sun.
